William
Yeo was born in 1805 in Lifton, Devon, son of Richard
Yeo and Catherine Luxon. Richard was born in Inwardleigh,
Devon. William was a miner and married Sarah Milford.
Together they had four children, William b 1825, Richard
1829, Henry 1831 & Charlotte, 1833, all born in Stowford,
Devon. William then remarried another Sarah, Sarah
Morgar in Mersham, Surrey and this was where their
first son Michael was born. They returned to Stowford
and Elizabeth, Ann, Mary & Eliza were born. In
1863 the family except for eldest son William emigrated to
Australia. However, Michael returned and was tragically
killed in a mining accident in 1866 near Horrabridge, Devon.
Ironically it was Michael who alerted the miners that the
mine was about to be flooded, but was unable to save himself.
It is thought he returned into the mine to save others. .
Richard b. 1829 married Ellen Carter and Henry
b. 1831, married Jane Geake in England, but she
sadly died just after they arrived in Australia. He then remarried
to Catherine Billing. His son Richard married
Elizabeth McKindlay and they had many children in Victoria,
Australia. His second son, Henry married Sarah
Allen and also had numerous children, so there must be
many descendants of William still living in Australia.
