PASSING OF A SILVERTON WORTHY MR C. E. YEO
With great regret Silverton people heard of the death on Tuesday of Mr Charles Edwin Yeo. He passed away that morning in Exeter Hospital, aged 44, after a long illness (Bright's disease)
A native of Silverton, Mr Yeo had actively associated himself with the life of the place, and his genial disposition made him very popular. He was a bandmaster, secretary of the British Legion, an old Forester, was formerly connected with the Debating Society, and president of last year's very successful carnival.
Mr Yeo was a member of the Council and took a great interest in the band of ringers, under the Rev. G. F. Molineaux, which was formed for the purpose of furthering scientific ringing. In his early days he was a prominent choirister and Sunday-school teacher.
Deceased also took an active interest in forming the Men's Social Club some years ago, and was a very popular secretary.
At the morning assembly at the Richards' Endowed School, the scholars marked the sad event by kneeling in silence for one minute.
By profession Mr Yeo was a schoolmaster, and for many years had been assistant at the Silverton schools.
He leaves a widow and two children, with whom general sympathy is felt. The funeral will be at Silverton on Saturday.
